Synopsis

Gabby makes good on his pledge to 'be helpful' by assisting the local fire department while they put out a fire. When the chief incapacitates himself by getting Gabby's hat stuck over his head, Gabby takes charge with with disastrous consequences.

    Here it is! Number 1 of the 8 Gabby cartoons that were made by the Fleischer brothers from 1940-1941. It's Gabby as a firefighter, well kinda. The know-it-all town crier of Lilliput tries his best to help the fire grow! One great gag right in the middle of this cartoon is when Gabby breaks down the door of the house and races into the burning house with a pail of water in hand. Naturally, the idiot Gabby pours the water on a potted plant and then puts a log on the fire in the fireplace, then leaves the house still in flames! Great gag. I laugh every time i see it. If you like this cartoon, check out "King for a Day", my second favorite Gabby cartoon. Poor Gabby, no more Gabby cartoons were made after 1941 as far as I can see.
