Synopsis

Evan Almighty is a comedy for all ages that stars Steve Carell (The 40 Year-Old Virgin) as Junior Congressman Evan Baxter, whose wish to “change the world” is heard by none other than God (Academy Award® winner* Morgan Freeman). When God appears with the perplexing request to build an ark, Evan is sure he is losing it. But soon mysterious deliveries of wood and tools are being dropped on his doorstep, animals of every shape and size are flocking to him two by two, and his self-absorbed life goes from overnight success
to almighty mess!
Evan Almighty is a hugely entertaining family comedy from Tom Shadyac, the director of Bruce Almighty and Liar Liar.

  1. Slapstick humour

As much as I enjoyed Steve Carell in "The 40 Year Old Virgin", he didn't manage to make a good film out of this sequel to slightly better "Bruce Almighty" (starring Jim Carrey). Where the first one had some sort of novelty factor and played on Jim Carrey's character's multiple new powers, this one simply really lacks comedy. Unless you find Carell repeatedly hitting his thumb with a hammer funny, Jonah Hill (from "Superbad") is probably the only thing that'll make you laugh. I quickly got tired of the "Morgan Freeman (playing God) appears and disappears" joke (which wasn't really funny in the first place) and the animal gags are mostly, well... not comical. The ending manages to bring the level of the film up a bit by offering a unexpected twist. If you didn't like "Bruce" then this is unlikely to interest you, but I guess the "cuteness" of the animals makes it appealing to kids.
