Synopsis

From Kevin Smith, the acclaimed director of Clerks, comes this outrageous story of two loafers, Jeremy London (The Babysitter) and Jason Lee (Kissing a Fool), who spend way too much time hanging out at the mall.

When Brodie (Lee) is dumped by his girlfriend, Shannen Doherty (Heathers, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun), he retreats to the mall with his best friend T.S. (London), whose girlfriend has also left him. Between brooding and visits to the food court, the unmotivated twosome decide to win their girlfriends back with the help of the ultimate delinquents, Silent Bob (Kevin Smith) and Jay (Jason Mewes), whose continuing adventures take the word nuisance to a whole new level.

    cartoon, comic book type humour

    06 December 2008
Written and directed by Kevin Smith comes a story about two best friends dumped by their girlfriends as they seek refuge in the local mall. I do like Kevin Smith’s work – I think his humour is quirky and witty. The plot is slightly silly and maybe unrealistic but in Smith’s world, he is able to create some cool characters which are over the top, exaggerated but funny. You only have to take a look at Jay and Silent Bob to know what I’m talking about. I thought Jason Lee’s character is the show-stealer in this film. His timing of his jokes is good and you can’t really imagine anyone else playing this comic book geek role. Kevin Smith’s humour is not really slapstick; it’s almost like a cartoon, comic book type humour. This film is not my favourite Kevin Smith movie - Dogma is much better film to watch along with Chasing Amy but fans of Kevin Smith who get his humour will enjoy this.

Such a letdown in comparison to the other early Kevin Smith films. Clerks, Chasing Amy and Dogma were head and shoulders above this lame and largely unfunny effort.
