Homer-eroticism

It really isn't as bad as it's been made out to be. Actually, I enjoyed it a lot. OK, as a translation of the epic Greek poem it plays pretty fast and loose, but (for better or worse) the days of seeing toga-clad Gods looking down on humankind in films like this are long-gone. There's a huge list of famous faces in this film, which is more than necessary when trying to cram the entire epic into (an admittedly still long) 163 minutes. The battle scenes are well-done but it's the one-on-one sequences that work best - with the final confrontation between Eric Bana's Hector and Brad Pitt's Achilles being one of the best fight sequences I've seen in a while. Troy also has one of the funniest lightbulb-above-the-head inspiration sequences ever filmed as Odysseus has the idea for the Trojan Horse - 'unintentionally hilarious' doesn't quite cover it...
