Synopsis

Based on the novel by Nikos Kazantzakis, Martin Scorsese's controversial 'The Last Temptation of Christ' documents Jesus's own revelation that he himself is the Messiah. Capturing the great spiritual weight placed upon this carpenter from Nazareth (who specialises in creating crucifixes), his greatest temptation comes when he is allowed to step down off the cross and live his life amongst other men.

    brilliant cinematography

Before Passion of the Christ, this was one film that the church didn’t want you to see. You have to have an open mind to watch this and don’t really take this as gospel truth but with this film, you are treated to brilliant cinematography and film-making from director Martin Scorsese. He brings a powerful, atmospheric and compassionate film rather than the GBH beating that Mel Gibson’s Passion of the Christ brings. Despite being criticized by many Christians who saw this film as blasphemous and unholy with it outrageous claims about Jesus leading a normal life as he slowly dies on the cross, I enjoyed the film and recommend it. I guess why this film is enjoyable is that you see Jesus just like us – a human that struggles with life which brings a humanistic touch for the audience to connect with and William Dafoe as Jesus certainly does that. The rest of the cast are on superb form.
