Parenthood

One of Ron Howard’s best.

It is essentially a simple story, contemplating the responsibilities and emotional bonds involved in raising children. This is one of Steve Martin’s best roles, as he attempts to -failingly - balance bringing up his kids and working a full time demanding job. One of my favourite scenes is where the clown employed for a small kid’s birthday party doesn’t turn up and so Martin has to entertain them all. As well as being a very well written and directed movie, which is very easy to relate to - particularly if you are a parent I would imagine. This is a feel-good family movie, filled to the brim with brilliant actors, energy, love, hilarity, creative scenes, and universal humour. This movie is not contrived and cynical like so many modern movies, but provides a loving slice of comedy suitable for all the family.
