Heavyweight children's classic

The Goonies is a heavyweight among cult-classic flicks of the 80s. The plot is simple: a group of suburban kids go in search for treasure, but what follows is a weird, fun and sometimes scary adventure. Playing out like an imaginative 8-year-old's dream, the movie is filled with spectacular booby traps, deformed mutant creatures and skeleton pirates. The action is well paced and interlaced with funny banter between the gang of memorable characters. This is classic Spielberg escapism which touched a nerve with a whole generation of kids. Compared to CGI-filled children's movies of today, The Goonies maintains an old-fashioned charm that still holds up to repeated viewings.
