Synopsis

Life seems to be looking up for shy and withdrawn Stephane when he returns to his childhood home with the promise of a great job. The job does not work out as he'd hoped, but he strikes up a relationship with his neighbor, Stephanie. Now as his wildly creative, fanciful and sometimes disturbing dream life constantly intrudes in his waking world, the confidence he exudes in his dreams bleeds into his real life - until his insecurities force their way back and Stephane confronts a dilemma that even The Science of Sleep my not be able to resolve.

Couldn't agree more.
A truly wonderful piece of film-making. I really enjoyed this and didn't once think of anything other than the moving pictures in front of my eyes

Beautiful and enchanting

This film is beautiful and enchanting and if you like Gondry’s other film “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”. There are moments of surrealism and it is simply not your average romantic comedy. The dream like visuals are wonderful using stop motion animation techniques and you would end up loving the characters, especially the central character of Stephane, a shy yet insecure young man who lies to the woman of his dreams just to get her attention...with comic consequences. The only fault with this film that after all the dreamscape fantasies and everything, the ending does seem a little flat. I can understand it was probably difficult to end such a cleverly written and well acted film but don’t let this put you off seeing this movie. Where some movies have that feeling “I wish this film was over”, you wouldn’t get that feeling with this one.
