Synopsis

Director Stanley Kubrick rips the skin from the face of war to expose the dehumanizing effect of the military on the people fed to its emotional meat grinder in Full Metal Jacket.

Through the eyes of an 18-year-old recruit--from his first days in the seeming Hell of Marine boot camp as his superiors try to strip of him his individuality and re-create him as a soldier to the Hell of the 1968 Tet offensive, Kubrick reveals the damage done to the collective human soul by the inhumanity of war.

Met my expectations

A real film of two halves. The first hour is darkly funny and endlessly quotable, the second hour is a war film with character journeys and impressive set pieces. It didn't let me down at all and I'd happily watch it again. 1, 2, 3, 4, I LOVE THE MARINE CORPS!

Its not bad but a bit dull. Too much psychology and not enough warfare. The last bit of actually service footage is almost tagged onto the film as an afterthought.

Heard wonderful things about the director although I thought this film was a fair good shot at a war film it's far from the best. I think you've got to checkout Apocalypse Now for the definitive Vietnam film. Still worth a watch though I'd give it 8/10 and for £0.99 you can't go wrong.

The synopsis sounds great and the film proves to be equally great as it unveils the monstrosities of being in the army. Funny, violent and thought-provoking this film is worth seeing if you've ever questioned what war does to a man.
