Thirteen is the new twelve in the third terrific chapter of Oscar® winners George Clooney and Steven Soderbergh's criminal caper series. With a stellar cast of criminal cohorts (including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia, Don Cheadle, Bernie Mac and newcomers Al Pacino and Ellen Barkin), it doesn't matter if it's eleven, twelve or thirteen -- it all adds up to fun. So ... are you in or are you out?
The story is worn-out: A load of washed-up master criminals, a heist, a meticulous plan, and a twist at the end. Ocean’s Eleven was great because it was new, 12 was good because we wanted more (and the humour was good), 13 is just 3rd time unlucky. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a watchable film, and enjoyable for the most part; just don’t expect anything beyond the ‘Ocean’s Formula’
After the debacle that was Oceans 12, in addition to the recent lukewarm trilogy's this summer, it was good to see the boys back on track in this slick prequel.
The writing, script and general interaction between the characters seemed more worthwhile than its predecessor. However, despite the vast improvement, there were some elements of mediocrity. The middle portion of the film seemed laboured and haphazard. the plot becomes too confusing for its own good; but fortunately, it leads to a conclusive, if slightly unsatisfying finale.
