They took his money. They took his wife. And they tried to take his life. Now it's time for payback as one man starts his own personal war against the syndicate in this hard-edged thriller based on the novel The Hunter by Richard Stark.
If you like a film where there is violence, cheating, lying, stealing, murderers, drug dealers and basically not one good guy in sight…then you should definitely watch Payback. The success of this film relies with Gibson and the believable cast and Brain Helgeland, the screenwriter and director. The dialogue is smart and gritty and the plot is simple to follow. Gibson is on form as Porter as the anti-hero who was left for dead and now plotting his revenge. He’s a violent criminal and thief whom you will find hard to cheer on. We are so used to seeing Gibson seeing as a good, fun loving guy so seeing him in this role is bold coming from him and might change a few opinions on him as well. However, It’s great fun to watch and highly entertaining and definitely worth watching in this film noir tribute. With some great moments, this film is just class.
great fun
