    Fantastic film

Truly magnificent film that is sometimes overlooked and dismissed as "another cop movie" despite the Oscar win (there are still people that argue A Beautiful Mind should have won). It is so much more. Washington and Hawke excel in their roles and it is non stop from first minute till last with twists and turns aplenty along the way. One of my favourite ever movies. Criminally underrated.

    perfect

Denzel Washington simply excels as the experienced corrupt police officer showing a rookie (played by Ethan Hawke) the ropes in becoming a narcotics officer. Everything is perfect which includes the script and the authentic, gritty locations. You will be on the edge of your seats wondering what will happen in the end. Denzel Washington is just flawless. Everything he says will intrigue as he pulls you into his world. There will be moments where you think he is mad and crazy, like forcing Jake to smoke PCP at gunpoint and the others where he makes a valid point. His conversation about newspapers is one highlight. You simply can’t imagine anyone else playing that role as Denzel puts in everything. As for Ethan Hawk, he also does an excellent job as the rookie cop Jake trying to maintain his morals. This film makes the issue of corrupt cops very real and shouldn’t be ignored.
