Highly recommended

This is certainly an underrated good film. It’s not one of Tom Cruise’s best performances but he alongside Ken Watanabe gives an outstanding performance. The attention to detail in this film is amazing. It’s beautifully filmed and the action sequences are brilliantly executed and somehow this film manages to capture the true essence and heart of the Japanese Samurai warriors who supposedly were stopping the unification of the Japanese nation. I like the fact that the film captures both sides of the argument for the war, where one side fights for honour and respect whereas the other uses new technology to defeat their enemies. This is where Ken Watanabe really shines with his fight for honour for the Samurai and their ancient traditions. The film does get let down by the simplistic, safe, easy ending that you come to expect with Hollywood films but I totally recommend this
