First things first, Chevy Chase is (okay, was - how the mighty have fallen) a comedic god. Remember when they’d let you watch this in school the day before the Christmas holidays? The beauty of this movie is that for child and adult alike, it’s a freakin’ laugh riot. It helps if you’re a sucker for Christmas, but the bit with where they cut down the christmas tree, or the bit with the squirrel, or the bit sledding? They all transcend the holiday thing . It’s also worth watching to see Johnny Galecki and Juliette Lewis as kids. He’s around the same height, and she hasn’t yet discovered she’s crazy. A fair amount of this movie’s appeal may be sentimental, but that doesn’t stop it ruling! It’s an official blinkbox Christmas classic.
