Ten years after atomic bomb tests, a little girl wanders alone out of the New Mexico desert. Investigators discover a string of brutal murders. But the traumatised girl, the sole witness to the killings, can only scream one word ... Them!

The investigation leads to a nest of atomically mutated giant ants that threaten to destroy mankind. After a ferocious battle the humans gain the upper hand, destroying the nest--but not before a queen and drones escape. After a desperate search, a thriving new nest is found, and the fateful, final battle between man and monster rages beneath the city of Los Angeles as a horror horde of giants claws out of the earth from mile-deep catacombs!
