Synopsis

Divorced and dateless for two years, 37-year-old Sarah Hurlihy sets out to change her single status when she bravely answers an online Personals ad. Instead of Mr. Right, Sarah experiences the ultimate nightmare when her would-be date turns out to be her widower father!

Sarah's sister Carol convinces Sarah to post her own ad and include the words "Must Love Dogs," although Sarah does not own a dog. The posting produces many responses, forcing Sarah to borrow her brother's dog, Mother Teresa. Now Sarah is juggling her job as a preschool teacher, her interfering family, and more men than she can handle. But can Sarah's family back off long enough to avoid scaring all of these men away in the charming romantic comedy Must Love Dogs?

Watchable... just!

For a film with Dogs in the title, and a dog on the cover of the DVD.... very little canine screen time. Putting that disappointment to one side I found this film to be just about watchable. There is nothing original in this film except that weirdly, all the characters speak in metaphors.. they dont seem to be able to have a normal conversation. The story line is completely predictable and any plot twists are really badly contrived. Watch it only if there is nothing better on TV, would be my advice.

'Must Love Dogs' is a highly contemporary work of genius; it is about getting divorced and the journey involved in starting over, and dating again... Various things in this film will feel very close to home: like your friends constantly attempting to set you up with someone. Diane Lane is a divorced teacher who is trying to get back into the dating game and is faced with the challenge of meeting people on first dates that almost certainly won't receive a second one. Dermot Mulroney is an attractive divorced father of one of her students, and seems to maybe offer more than the average online date would involve. However, a new guy is on her case too, John Cusak playing a reasonably odd yet intelligent and experienced character who confidently wears his heart on his sleeve in order to win Lanes heart.
