Synopsis
Sylvester Stallone and Sharon Stone star in this hard-edged thriller about an ex-CIA explosives expert who helps a seductive beauty avenge the murder of her parents by a powerful Cuban-American crime boss.
Apparently Steven Seagal was offered the lead in this film but wanted $9million to do it and so the role went to Stallone instead. This is just as well as Stallone's always been far more watchable than the ponytailed , akido-fighting action star. It's just a pity that Stallone - alongside co-stars Sharon Stone and James Woods - is really given very little to do here. Even the obligatory romance section of the plot is given very little time to develop as Stallone and Stone exchange most of their dialogue over the phone until well into the film. Still, this isn't the kind of film where you bother to complain about little things like dialogue or plot. Stallone's character is a bombs expert - a handy little device that serves as an excuse to let the filmmakers blow up pretty much everything they can. It all feels a bit like one explosion after another but I guess that's the point.
