Synopsis

In this updated adaptation of H.G. Wells' classic novel, a scientist in 1880s Victorian England builds a vehicle to transport him through time. He first travels to 1917 and the horror of World War I. Next, he sets his destination for 1940 and the start of World War II. From there he travels to a future London when he barely escapes nuclear holocaust. Finally, he sets his destination for the year 802,701 C.E., when he meets an innocent race of people living in an idyllic land ... but this future may be the most dangerous of all his journeys in The Time Machine.

Not as bad as you think

there are a lot of reviews on the internet that compares this with the 1960's version by HG Wells, I watched both and as much as I enjoyed both, I favor the 2001 version, like ten times more. Yes they could have made the story better, but with the advancements with technology, fairly good storyline, the amazing music by Klaus Badelt and a more realistic portrayals of elois. I can say the effort to remake HG Wells classic is a commendable effort

    who has the time?

    06 December 2008
The best reason to watch this film really has to be the sight of Jeremy Irons dressed in head-to-toe latex and leather, with the kind of make-up that makes him look like nothing so much as a slightly embarrassed dad at a Marilyn Manson gig. Still, Irons doesn't make an appearance til at least an hour into the film, and there's not that many reasons not to pick up the remote well before then. Guy Pierce is fine as usual as the scientist who delves into time travel after his fiance dies, and the scenes of him viewing the changing landscape as he travels through time are great. The main problem is the complete lack of any kind of a sense of wonder. The whole idea of time travel is dealt with in a matter-of-fact way which means that its very difficult to care about where (or when) the hero ends up. So, best to watch it for glam-goth Jeremy Irons instead then.
