It's 1965, and Bev is a bright Connecticut girl who dreams of moving to New York City to become a writer. After years of perseverance, she realises that she and her son, separated in age by only 15 years, have grown up together, and that the 'obstacles' of child rearing have defined her life. The story goes back and forth in time as it poignantly reveals this unlikely heroine's often humorous, occasionally irreverent, and always unique personal journey to make something of herself.
