A lesser film than the first and third in the series, 'Free Willy 2' is decent enough but ruthlessly mechanical. Almost all the cast from the first film are back, including Willy, who pops up with his family and has to be saved once again when an oil tanker runs aground. The script lacks sparkle but the film is given a huge boost by Francis Capra as Jessie's previously unheard-of brother; he's natural and funny, and well worth watching. Unfortunately the focus of the film becomes unclear with both this plot line and Willy's plight both vying for attention, and so the movie tends to be somewhat disconnected. Some of the charm from the original has seeped through, but this remains a disappointing follow-up.
Pretty Decent Sequel
