Still a classic but not much different

The Exorcist is already canonised and holds its place (perhaps pedestal) among the great horror films of all time. With disturbing imagery, intermittent bursts of shocking dialogue amongst the, thankfully, unhammy script, measured pacing and mostly restrained performances from the cast; it's easy to see why the film rises above the cheap thrills of most horror flicks. The Exorcist takes itself seriously and commands that you do. For this updated director's cut, a few scenes have been added but not to any groundbreaking effect. The prolonged medical exams disrupt the pacing but of some interest will be the 'spiderwalk' sequence. Brief and ,to some, possibly unintentionally funny, it's still an interesting special effects sequence. The Exorcist remains a classic, cuts or no cuts.
