Still a classic but not much different

The Exorcist is already canonised and holds its place (perhaps pedestal) among the great horror films of all time. With disturbing imagery, intermittent bursts of shocking dialogue amongst the, thankfully, unhammy script, measured pacing and mostly restrained performances from the cast; it's easy to see why the film rises above the cheap thrills of most horror flicks. The Exorcist takes itself seriously and commands that you do. For this updated director's cut, a few scenes have been added but not to any groundbreaking effect. The prolonged medical exams disrupt the pacing but of some interest will be the 'spiderwalk' sequence. Brief and ,to some, possibly unintentionally funny, it's still an interesting special effects sequence. The Exorcist remains a classic, cuts or no cuts.

RE: Still a classic but not much different

I can't write a review better than this one - totally agree. I do find the medical scenes do add a bit more 'background' to the character of Reagan. It has always frustrated me slightly that her character goes from being normal to being posessed without any sort of middle ground so these scenes seem to fit here. The spiderwalk sequence is, now, of course, a CLASSIC scene from the film; however hilarious some may find it! So it's nice to see it in this version (if 'nice' is the right word!). The only other difference with this version, I believe, are the subliminal images of a scary face when the possession begins. Hard to spot at first but they are there! Other than that it's the same classic film, not just a boring uber-long director's cut. :-)
