Synopsis

Academy Award winner William Hurt stars with Kathleen Turner in a taut story of lust, greed and murder set in a steamy South Florida town.

When libidinous but not-very-smart attorney Ned Racine (Hurt) begins an affair with Matty Walker (Turner), the beautiful, young wife of an unscrupulous tycoon, their desire to be together leads to thoughts of murder. But after the meticulously planned crime is committed, Ned begins to wonder if Matty loves her late husband's money more than she loves him ... and if she is plotting another murder.

    This is one of my favorite films, and it sustains repeated viewing mainly because of the direction, and the way he creates an atmosphere that allows one to picture vividly up the heady, sweaty Florida heat wave and the voracity, lust and deceitfulness of it's two leading characters. This director is Lawrence Jasdan, as this is his first big movie – what a debut!
    The script is excellent, and, William Hurt, in one of his most outstanding roles, plays a lawyer unsuspectingly drawn into a game of dishonesty and trickery created by Kathleen Turner (also her screen debut) as a young married party girl who Is conspiring - with Hurt's assistance - to murder her husband. The writing is satirically hilarious, and the atmosphere is further added to by the actor’s sweaty, emotional chemistry.
    The script is superb, and William Hurt, Kathleen Turner and Mickey Rourke’s performances are excellent.
