  1. historically inaccurate but entertaining

    06 December 2008
Hollywood has never been obsessed with making historically accurate epics (particularly concerning the West), and, They Died with Their Boots On is no exception. Breaking from fact, Errol Flynn’s General George Armstrong Custer is neither an arrogant fool nor a rabid Indian hater, but instead a flamboyant and brilliant cavalry officer, who defies his superiors' orders during the Civil War and becomes a hero as a result. After a brief retirement, Custer takes charge of a ragtag battalion and makes a potentially dangerous promise to the local Indian Tribes. Betrayed and forced to fight to save himself and his men, Custer and his command ride towards a rendezvous with destiny at the Little Big Horn, an epic battle in American history. Though there is some historical distortion, this film is never dull, especially during the spectacular Custer's Last Stand finale.
