Synopsis

An all-star cast, including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton and John Malkovich, come together in this outrageous spy comedy about murder, blackmail, sex addiction and physical fitness! When a disc filled with some of the CIA’s most irrelevant secrets gets in the hands of two determined, but dim-witted, gym employees, the duo are intent on exploiting their find. But since blackmail is a trade better left for the experts, events soon spiral out of everyone’s and anyone’s control, resulting in a non-stop series of hilarious encounters! From Joel and Ethan Coen, the Academy Award®-winning* directors of No Country For Old Men and The Big Lebowski, comes this brilliantly clever and endlessly entertaining movie that critics are calling smart, funny, and original.

  1. Archly knowing, but oh so worth it.

    15 February 2010
Burn Before Reading owes a significant debt to the Whitehall Theatre farces, to the extent that you're pretty much sitting through the denouement waiting for George Clooney to lose his trousers. Much like the game of Mousetrap, the Coens spend the first hour setting everything up and making sure all the levers are in place, the cogs are greased and the scaffolding is suitably ricketty - and then they run the machine and insanity ensues.
  2. A great funny film

    05 January 2009
If you like a good farce, then this is for you. As mysterious computer disk appears at a gym, a huge operation kicks into swing to blackmail the Russians, the CIA, and whoever else will pay for the cosmetic surgery. The characters are all great, and well cast, with Frances McDormand and Brad Pitt carrying whole thing off perfectly.
