Synopsis

A tale of murder in small-town Kansas. When Jimmy is lured away from his abusive family by a traveling sideshow carnival, he encounters Sandra, one of the main attractions. The happiness they find together causes them to confront the darkness in their lives.

    Everything about this movie fascinates me. Even the unexpected ending has a compelling and unique flavor to it. FIRECRACKER is filled with crime-noir touches that form an absorbing whole that is hard to beat. The acting is top-notch, the scenes are set perfectly taking from every crime movie and creating a whole that could not have been done so well by just any director - perhaps the only other is Hitchcock who could have pulled this off. Then there's the orchestral score that underlines the action which gives the atmosphere a feeling that just flows off the screen. Right to the end... which I won't reveal... Karen Black is great in both her roles.
