  1. Solid

    02 February 2010
This is a solid film. The film can be dramatic and powerful, showcasing the ill effects of schizophrenia but suffers slightly in terms of direction. It makes a point about mental health but doesn’t really enforce it. Maybe that was the main point of the film. Rather tell a ‘by the books’ tale about mental illness, The Soloist is more about friendship between the schizophrenic Nathaniel Ayers (Jamie Foxx) and the newspaper reporter Steve Lopez (Downey Jr.). In Nathaniel you’ll find an incredible story of a man with a troubled mind but yet can play musical instruments good enough for an orchestra. It is because of this story that will make you watch this right to the end.
