Synopsis

One of the greatest sagas in movie history continues. In this third film in the epic Corleone trilogy, Al Pacino reprises the role of powerful family leader Michael Corleone. Returning to the Godfather

We return to the Corleone family years after the conclusion of Part II. The Corleone family have become a corporation in the modern world with stakes in the Vatican and charity funds. And while Michael Corleone has strived to become legitimate - a promise to Kay from first Godfather - he finds himself dragged back into mob violence by the fiery Vincent (Andy Garcia), son of the equally fiery Sonny. With such a gap between movies it falls into the trappings of other delayed sequels - numerous family photos of dead relatives (Vito, Sonny, Fredo), spliced memories of earlier footage and conversations about the past. It maintains a curious interest but the first half is largely about business deals, and the opera finale seems a little tacked-on. But it's the distance between Pacino's character then and now that ultimately does not ring true.
