Synopsis

For both comic book fans and those who can't tell the Green Lantern from the Green Arrow, IRON MAN is the type of summer blockbuster whose appeal lasts far beyond the season. Robert Downey Jr. stars as Tony Stark, a billionaire playboy and genius who puts as much effort into chasing skirts as he puts into chasing his next big idea. A trip to Afghanistan to sell weapons quickly devolves into chaos, and Stark finds himself at the mercy of a warlord who wants him to build a missile. Instead, Stark creates a powerful suit of armour, turning him into Iron Man and allowing him to escape. When he returns to America, his assistant Pepper Pots (Gwyneth Paltrow), friend Rhodey (Terrence Howard), and right-hand man Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges) all marvel at the change in the man they knew.

OK this is just a Hollywood film and so you don't expect anything too intelligent, but it is ironic. This means that it is self-reflective about itself as object. It knows that you know that it knows. On top of that Robert Downry Jr. is great . I wanted to write to him and say you did good. To be an action hero is really hard, probably the hardest acting it the world. Sure it is easy to be a stupid action hero, but to be an intelligent one (which means don't take it too seriously - but being not serious is really really hard without being sanctimonious) that is something that you would nod your head to, and that is all it takes. Watch and enjoy.

I'm not a huge RDJ fan but he is far better when he is playing more "ridiculous" roles, so this film is perfect for him. ot sure what Gwyneth Paltrow is doing in this one, but she is subtle and sexy.

Really enjoyed this film, and Downey Jr. clearly had a vintage year. One of those films you simply can't miss, with loads of action and cool gadgets!
