  1. Rubbish film

    28 February 2010
tedious and pedestrian, not even interesting enough to be bizarre
  2. I liked it

    08 February 2010
I'd heard people saying it wasn't great, and I'd agree with Patrick S when I say it wasn't the best Tarantino movie... but that said, I did enjoy it. An interesting 'fanciful' ending; I did think that some of the dialogue was somewhat unnecessary, and the intro scene for each of the Basterds just didn't work for me. In all, a good movie that won't disappoint.
  3. QT

    02 January 2010
This is not QT's best but it's certainly not his worst either. The opening scene in the farm house is riveting and the Jew hunter is one of the great screen villains to come along in a long time.
  4. Better than I expected

    15 December 2009
After the self-indulgent dirge Tarantino has produced since Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction I wasn't expecting much of this either, so was surprised particularly for the first 45 minutes or so which are brilliantly written and then played out. Unfortunately after this the film does start to lapse into overly drawn out dialogue until you're almost screaming "just get on with it" at the screen. It picks up again but by this time it's well after the two hour mark without sufficient justification. If more time had been spent in the editing room cutting out half an hour or so I would have enjoyed it a lot more, but even so I'll give it a grudging four stars.
  5. Tarantino's worst yet?

    14 December 2009
Inspired by spaghetti westerns and 70's exploitation movies, Inglourious Basterds is essentially a revenge fantasy set in Nazi occupied France during the second world war. Despite an interesting premise, smart dialogue and a couple of truly outstanding performances from Chistoph Waltz and Melanie Laurent this film never quite hits the heights of either previous Tarantino efforts or other war dramas/genre spoofs/trash flicks or whatever this movie is meant to be. Self indulgent and unnecessarily sprawling, it is somehow missing a key ingredient. Having said that, it does have its moments and while definitely flawed it still excites and entertains more than your average film.
