not as bad as Body of Lies

haven't read the book but it must be better than this movie..

the idea is okay but nothing new about it.. small details portrayed badly makes you think twice about the whole movie. things like kidnapping a Saudi prince from a hotel?! come on, they must have a couple of places in Lebanon, hotel my arse. and as usual, americans can get anything done so damn easily.

and btw. Clooney's Arabic is gibberish. do some research before you make a movie.

The film inspired me to read the book on which it was based which is a good enough sign for me-you will not be disappointed in this, strong cast including out very own Mark Strong.Clooney does a fine job as per,Jeffery Wright great as per-will leave you wanting more, and as an other reviewer said-watch it then turn on the news and see what you've learnt...competent and disturbing filmmaking

    A Noble Effort

    15 May 2010
When a movie is this good, we have to forgive its shortcomings. Yes it dumbs down the real complexities of petro-politics and yes it frequently patronises us with exposition dialogue. Matt Damon showing a ruler with a Ph.D how to run his country by drawing in the sand? Please...
But the makers of Syriana had few options - how do you tell such a convoluted story without weighing it down with actual political and legal processes? How do you make sure audiences get the info they need to ensure that the plot remains credible, that its events remain precedented?
It mostly succeeds and we mostly stick with it because of George Clooney's touching performance as the older, wiser and sadder operative who has had enough of the BS. Against a background of greed, pride, power-politics and religious radicalisation, Clooney charges the entire film with his portrayal of a dignity and new-found maturity so affecting that we find ourselves suddenly rooting for all the victims of big business from top to bottom - even the CIA stooges.
Watch this movie, then switch straight to the news and see what you've learned.

    worth the effort

    06 December 2008
A political thriller based on a book by Robert Baer, Syriana tackles some serious and pressing subjects. Weaving parallel lives together, Syriana is an exploration of oil, corruption and big business, which features a CIA agent, an energy analyst, an attorney and an immigrant worker all connected in a web of power. Syriana proves that it is possible to make an entertaining film with a clear message, as it strikes a balance between politics and drama. George Clooney puts in a memorable and highly charged performance and the supporting characters are equally fascinating. Syriana is a gripping film regardless of how strongly you might feel about the themes it deals with. Syriana really does make you think. Well worth a watch.
