Synopsis

From the best-selling books comes this unstoppable fantasy adventure. Visiting a travelling freak show,16-year-old Darren is bitten by a vampire (John C. Reilly). An introduction of a potential series

Cirque Du Freak starts promisingly with the down-to-earth main characters being introduced into a world of intrigueing freaks and bizarre monsters. However after this initial sequence, the film goes somewhat downhill. Some of my criticisms- Most of the so-called freaks aren't developed much further than their introduction, the two main characters develop unbelievably to serve the plot, nothing much happens for a long period and then the main plot points seem to turnover in the blink of an eye. The film itself is based on the first 3 books of a 12 book series which is shown in the film not just by the cramming of 3 books into 1 hour and 45 minutes but also in the evident intention for sequels. However the film does have some good make up and special effects as well as many familiar actors playing odd and unexpected roles which should amuse some viewers.
