Adapted from the novel by Anthony Burgess and directed by the legendary Stanley Kubrick, A clockwork Orange was given an X Rating when it was released due to its rape and sex scenes. The film centres on the sociopathic Alex, who enjoys Beethoven, ultra-violence and rape and lives in a future vision of Britain. Alex undergoes experimental treatment but can he be cured? A Clockwork Orange is every bit as disturbing today as it was when it was first released. If you can stomach the film's violent nature and get past seeing it as merely provocative then A Clockwork Orange is well worth a watch. Whether ultra violence is your cup of tea or not, A Clockwork Orange is certainly memorable, and it's a film that will no doubt last the test of time.
