Synopsis

"In Copenhagen, the writer and journalist Jacob and his girlfriend Nina are surprised when his beloved sister Julie, who became handicapped after an attempted suicide, informs that she is going to marry her Internet acquaintance Anker. However, on her wedding night, Julie commits suicide in the bathtub of the hotel, dying in the hands of Anker.

The countryside is flat, but the film is anything but. The pace allows you to engage with each character. There is tension and suspense. Superb use of camera and light. Understated evil and the frustration of seeking justice in life.

Murk tells the story of a man's (Jacob) search behind the truth of his sister's apparent suicide on the evening of her wedding to Anker. It is wonderfully acted and filmed. The cinematography, lighting and locations are all wonderfully executed, adding a bleak, cold, dramatic atmosphere. As a person interested in photography this is one of the things that really stood out for me. The flim moves along at a slowish pace but this is intentional. It is never boring and the pace helps to add to the tension and drama.

Don't expect much gore here, but a slow, tense drama that teases out new findings for Jacob as he seeks to find out what really happened to his sister, Julie and the woman who was married to Anker before her.
