more than just a car chase

Proving that simple clean action can still beat fancy effects hands down, Bullitt is a thriller that is without a doubt a trailblazer. Steve McQueen is as charismatic as ever, playing a hard-hitting cop out to discover the truth when the witness he is given the job of protecting is targeted by the Mafia. Bullitt is a lot slower paced than most current films of its genre, but when it does deliver action it doesn't do it by halves. The famous high-speed car chase is regularly in lists of the greatest car chases of all time and for good reason as it is truly brilliant. Excitement, suspense, and a simple but effective storyline – Bullitt makes for a really enjoyable and entertaining film, worth a watch if only to appreciate McQueen's performance. Thrillers may have changed their style since Bullitt's time but the film still remains a classic.
