Synopsis

Shot in the head during the 1991 Persian Gulf War, American soldier Jack Starks (Academy Award winner Adrien Brody - The Pianist) is pronounced dead by army medics moments before miraculously returning to life. One year later, Jack has returned to his native Vermont, where he is arrested for a murder he cannot remember. Found not guilty by reason of insanity, the veteran finds himself in an asylum, where a maniacal doctor (Kris Kristofferson - Blade trilogy) puts him on a grueling regimen of experimental drugs, restrains him in a jacket-like device, and locks him away in a body drawer of the basement morgue. The therapy sends the patient on a journey into the future, where he can foresee his death in four days' time. Now, the only question that matters is: Can the woman (Keira Knightley - Bend It Like Beckham) he meets in the future save him from The Jacket?

nice movie, but kiera nightly never shuts her mouth! it's not that she talks a lot, she's just catching flies. it was really annoying and honestly distracted me from the rest of the movie.

This is such a good film, can't believe that it didn't get the credit it deserved back when it was released. Highly recommended story about love across the decades.

Much-underrated film from British director John Maybury, The Jacket went pretty much unnoticed when it was released in 2005. In fact, I might never have seen it either if I hadn’t picked it up for £4 at the supermarket. Which would have been a shame as it’s an interesting, stylish and (an arch sin in Hollywood which might account for it’s lack of success) intelligent film which holds up to repeated viewings. Adrian Brody does a great line in distressed victim of circumstance forced into questioning his own sanity and – along with Keira Knightley (doing a more-than-passable American accent) – makes up what must be the thinnest screen couple seen for quite some time. Plus you also get to see a pre-Bond Daniel Craig doing his best Cuckoo’s Nest impersonation. Definitely worth a re-evaluation for all those who missed it the first time around.
