Synopsis

Tim Burton directs; Michael Keaton stars as Batman; and Jack Nicholson stars as his arch foe, The Joker, in the first of the blockbuster Batman series of features.

As the Dark Knight, defender of law and order in Gotham City, Batman treads the shadow zone between right and wrong, fighting with only his skill in martial arts and his keenly honed mind to defend the innocent and to purge the memory of his parents' brutal murder always keeping his true identity as millionaire philanthropist Bruce Wayne a closely guarded secret.

    There was only one Batman film...

    ... and this was it. Tim Burton did an awesome job on this film. Michael Keaton does a good Batman, and Jack Nicholson does The Joker even better. An all time classic that I don't think anyone will better (or dare to).

    Directed by Tim Burton, this is the first and best of the Batman films, stylishly combining our gothic hero and a clownish villain, and featuring the most effective use of Jack Nicholson's crazed, leering face since The Shining. Thankfully more faithful to the comics of the 1980s than the camp TV shows of the 60s, this is an atmospheric and genuinely engaging film, as you watch The Joker and our brooding superhero slug it out over the safety of Gotham City and the love-interest Vicki Vale (Kim Basinger). Even the board game was good.
