Synopsis

Hitchcock fills this story with his usual mix of suspense and deftly fashioned humour. Sir John Gielgud plays Edgar Brodie, a novelist persuaded by the head of the Secret Service to undertake an espionage ‘commission’ in Switzerland. He is given a false name and his instructions - to stop a German spy from receiving orders which would devastate the Allied war plans. As they travel to Turkey, he and his assistant (a Mexican well trained in killing) become involved in murder and intrigue. With Madeleine Carroll and Peter Lorre.
