Co-written and directed by Christopher Guest, Waiting For Guffman is a comedy mockumentary that gently pokes fun at small town America. A community theatre group is led to believe that they have a chance of making it to Broadway by musical director Corky St. Clair. However, the talent on display at the theatre show about the town's history leaves a little to be desired. Waiting For Guffman is a brilliant example of understated humour at its best. The laughs are subtly done rather than piled on thick and the film is all the better for it. Talented actors and great improvisation make this a comedy that is a delight to watch. Waiting For Guffman has real warmth, and some fantastically funny moments.
