  1. up there with Kubrick's best

Based on the novel by William Makepeace Thackeray, and directed by the legendary Stanley Kubrick, Barry Lyndon is a period piece which combines drama and romance. Set in 18th Century Europe, Barry Lyndon focuses on the fortunes of Redmond Barry, and Irish rogue intent on climbing up the social ladder. After Lyndon seduces a rich countess he finds out that he can lose his fortune just as easily as he gained it. Barry Lyndon is a compelling film. Not only is it brilliantly scripted, directed and acted but it progresses at a pace which allows you to admire all the small details and wonder at how well the film fits together overall. Barry Lyndon is definitely up there with Kubrick's best work.
