Cool Hand Luke is the tale of a classic anti-hero who refuses to conform. Played by Paul Newman, Luke is sent to prison but rebels, resisting all attempts made by the authorities to break his spirit. Newman is utterly convincing as the charismatic Luke, idealised by the other prisoners and targeted by those with power. Aside from the fact that it's hard not to respect a man that can eat fifty eggs, you can't fail to root for Luke as he comes under increasing pressure to conform. With brilliant acting, an engaging script, and plenty of amusing moments, Cool Hand Luke lives up to its reputation as a classic, and it's as entertaining to watch now as it was forty years ago. Everyone loves a good rebel, and Luke is perhaps one of the best.
