Synopsis
Apaporis retraces the journey of famed American botanist Richard Evans Schultes, who in 1941 set off on an epic 12-year research trip down the Amazon and through the Andes, navigating unknown rivers, collecting new plant species, and establishing friendships with indigenous tribes. Armed with photographs from Schultes’ expedition, director José Antonio Dorado sets out to discover what happened to the natives, curious to see if their cultures and languages survived the exploitation of the rainforest and the decades-long wars that have ravaged Colombia.
Filled with breathtaking visuals that accentuate the might of nature and the spiritual magic of those communing with its power, this enthralling documentary records the present state of the customs and beliefs of the Amazonian tribes. Together, these once disparate communities must come together to fight for their culture and their survival.
