Synopsis

In 1960s California, young history teacher Ron Jones wanted to deter his students from the allure of totalitarianism and groupthink. Instituting a daring social experiment, Jones succeeded beyond his wildest dreams – or rather nightmares - creating a virtual fascist state on campus. Replete with salutes and Gestapo-like informants, 30 students grew to 200 as this exercise in fascism spiralled out of control, re-enacting the roots of the Third Reich.

Jones managed to halt his students’ snowballing wave of moral relativism by shocking them to the core but in doing so marked them for life – the dark memory of what they could become ever present.

The birth of The Third Wave isn’t just a footnote in history, but a continuing warning to us all. The story of what happened and could happen again all too easily is required reading at schools in Germany and Europe.
A riveting true-life story upon which the worldwide best-selling novel The Wave (Die Welle) is based.
