Synopsis

The meek shall inherit the earth. Wrong. Not in the bleak near-future of the second of three Mad Max movies.

Mel Gibson stars in the film that made him an international superstar as Max, a former cop reduced to scavenging for gasoline - the decaying world's most prized commodity as he cruises the barren, post-apocalyptic Outback along highways crawling with human vermin.

    A post-apocalyptic classic

    Following the success of the 1979 original, this sequel raised the stakes in both scope of action and imagination. The terrain is familiar: a post-apocalyptic world where gangs fight to survive as they search for fuel and food. Gibson is appropriately rugged against the film's harsh terrain and he emerges as a kind of cowboy in the Eastwood-mould, the lonesome hero helping out a desperate community under threat from marauding barbarians. Appealing for its sheer originality, watch out for the spectacular car chase at its climax.
