Early Coppola

Notable mainly for giving the major directorial debut for Francis Ford Coppola, who would go on to find fame for the Godfather movies, this early psychological thriller was shot as a cheap imitation of Hitchcock's classic Psycho. While the plot of the film is often found confusing and not altogether coherent, it does manage to create a certain tension, not least because of the setting within a Gothic Irish castle. The script is questionable at best, but overall the film is worth seeing for a glimpse of techniques that Coppola would go on to use throughout his career, and also for some suitably gory scenes that should keep the attention of most horror fans.
