Synopsis

THE HULK, adapted from the Marvel comic book series, stars Eric Bana as Bruce Banner, the tormented scientist whose temper periodically transforms him into a raging green monster. Fellow scientist and Hulk-love-interest Betty Ross shares a strange connection with Banner--both have abstract childhood nightmares that hint at a shared dark past. The missing pieces of the puzzle are revealed when Banner's unstable, mad-scientist father David appears out of the blue, followed by Betty's father Ross, a military cowboy.

    Ambitious yet flawed

    If there is one thing I can take my hat off to for Ang Lee’s version of Hulk is the artistic and creative direction he took with the film. Watching the movie was like watching a comic book panel coming to life. Where the 2008 reboot of Hulk is more action orientated, Ang Lee’s version is more dramatic and character driven. There is the level of emotional depth that Ang Lee captured with CG Hulk and the rest of the well casted actors. It is because of this, this version wins purely on substance. However, despite these good mentions, the plot is very slow building, often taking its time to get to the next dramatic set piece. It could have done with some editing here and there.
