A Little Princess

This is a heartfelt, entertaining film from the director who brought the excellent film, Children of Men. It’s not sappy; this film is great for any age group and there is something for everyone. There are a few flaws but don’t let that put you off from this beautifully shot film. Alfonso Cuaron manages to bring a sense of magic and imagination. With his direction, he pulls you into the world of Sara, a young girl relegated to servitude at a boarding school when her father goes missing during WW1 and is presumed dead. I like the fact that Sara tries to hold on to the belief that “all girls are princesses” and her active imagination where there are others who try to stifle that notion at her time in boarding school. She forgets about her own troubles to help others to make their life better, which is very admirable. An underrated children’s classic that needs to be watched.
