Nothing equals The Birds for sheer terror when Alfred Hitchcock unleashes his foul friends in one of his most shocking and memorable masterpieces.
As beautiful blonde Melanie Daniels (Tippi Hedren) rolls into Bodega Bay in pursuit of eligible bachelor Mitch Brenner (Rod Taylor), she is inexplicably attacked by a seagull. Suddenly thousands of birds are flocking into town, preying on schoolchildren and residents in a terrifying series of attacks. Soon Mitch and Melanie are fighting for their lives against a deadly force that can't be explained and can't be stopped in one of Hollywood's most horrific films of nature gone berserk.

If you are a bird watcher, someone who feeds the pigeons or just a lover of our feathered friends then do not watch this film – your hobby will be ruined forever. But then again, you have probably seen this Hitchcock classic already. A young lady arrives in a village as the native birds begin a series of deadly attacks. While the effects may be slightly dated, the scenes with the birds still stand the test of time and this old fashioned approach somehow adds to the terror. That aside, it is perhaps Hitchcock’s unrivalled ability to create suspense that really makes this such a chilling film. The camera work and attention to detail is superb – a lesson to all horror filmmakers. ‘The Birds’ is a timeless thriller and is essential viewing. Just don’t’ expect to be able to walk down the street without looking over your shoulder ever, ever again.
