Synopsis

Hugh Grant, Dennis Quaid and Mandy Moore star in this hilarious comedy about living the American Dream. The TV show "American Dreamz" is sweeping the ratings, and everyone wants to be a "Dreamer". But when two scheming, hopeful contestants face-off in the final showdown, the audience gets an eyeful of on-air fireworks. The stage is set for the wickedly funny, no-holds-barred competition.

    A poor parody of a TV phenomenon

    In the minds of most sane people terrorism and music-based reality TV shows (ala Pop Idol) are not subjects suitable for a good comedy. Sadly for those unfortunate enough to watch this film, dreadful director extraordinaire Sam Weitz (American Pie) begs to differ and Bob’s your uncle - ‘American Dreamz’ was born. A paranoid and out of touch President (Dennis Quaid) agrees to sit on judging panel for a national signing contest. The all-American girl next door (Mandy Moore) dreams of fame but must overcome an unlikely star in the form of Arabian visitor Omer – and that’s about it! There really isn’t much to write home about here. The acting is sloppy and distinctly average, the content is clichéd and offensive and boy is this movie not funny! Oh, and Hugh Grant is in it as a Simon Cowell type figure – a truly gruesome combination. Not going to watch it then? Thought not.
