Synopsis

Craig Schwartz (John Cusack) is a struggling street puppeteer. In order to make some money, Craig takes a job as a filing clerk. One day he accidentally discovers a door… a portal into the mind of John Malkovich (played by John Malkovich)! For 15 minutes, he experiences the ultimate head trip – HE is John Malkovich! Then he’s dumped out onto the New Jersey turnpike! With his beautiful office mate Maxine (Catherine Keener) and his pet-obsessed wife (Cameron Diaz), they hatch a plan to let others into John’s brain for just $200 a trip.

    In ‘Being John Malkovich’, a puppeteer finds a portal that lets you enter the mind of actor John Malkovich for 15 minutes. Beyond this bizarre yet simple concept, the casting and acting fits perfectly. John Cusack is superb as the illogical and troubled puppeteer Craig Schwartz while John Malkovich is hilarious yet profound in his role as, well, John Malkovich (no surprises there). The film straddles that difficult divide between comedy and insightful drama and also weighs in with a delicious helping of fantasy. The fact that it excels in all three departments says it all about this Spike Jonze classic. Just when you think you have seen it all Jonze delivers a truly absorbing ending. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions, a whirlwind fantasy ride and a beautifully constructed piece of art that will leave you with one thing on your mind – Malkovich, Malkovich, Malkovich, Malkovich………
